UK Autumn Statement 2023

UK Chancellor Jeremy Hunt presented his Autumn Statement last week to the House of Commons in a relatively upbeat and jovial mood, compared to his address last year on the state of the economy, when he was tasked with restoring the UK’s economic credibility following the fallout from Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini budget. However, the economic data underpinning the Statement and set out in the Office for Budgetary Responsibility’s accompanying Economic and Fiscal Outlook made for grim reading, with the UK bracing for the largest reduction in real living standards since the 1950s.
