In Colombia this week, Héctor Carvajal was elected by the Senate as the new magistrate of the Constitutional Court, a significant appointment given the court’s role in safeguarding the Constitution. His ties to President Petro and other public figures drew attention. 

In Bolivia, former president Evo Morales was officially barred from the upcoming presidential election, accused of presenting an invalid candidacy. Morales denounced the move as political persecution, blaming President Luis Arce for manipulating the judiciary. 

Meanwhile, the XXVI March to Brasília gathered over 14,000 public officials in Brazil to discuss tax reform and municipal funding. President Lula faced boos, reflecting friction between federal and local governments. 

In Argentina, legislative elections in Buenos Aires revealed intense political fragmentation and record-low turnout. President Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza, led the vote, pushing the traditional PRO into third place and boosting Peronism's legislative strength. 

Finally, President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico engaged in another call with U.S. President Donald Trump amid escalating trade tensions. Although Mexico was partially exempt from recent tariffs, new threats loom, prompting Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard to travel to Washington for further negotiations.
