An Interview with Troi Barbour

Analyst, washington, dc, us

Edelman Global Advisory recently caught up with Troi Barbour on her professional experience, helpful career advice, and proudest moments from her career. See our interview below and keep up with Troi on LinkedIn.

EGA: What excites you most about your role at EGA?

TB: I think what excites me most about my role is knowing that I’m a part of a hardworking, innovative team that gets really great work done. I love being able to bounce ideas off my colleagues and work collaboratively to make sure the client has the best possible product.

EGA: What would you say is your personal area of expertise?

TB: I’d say my personal area of expertise would be research and writing/editing. I’m still growing and developing at EGA, but I’d say those are some of the skills I think I use the most - whether it’s researching different areas of legislation that’ll help a client position themselves in the right space or drafting social media concepts and copy for a client trying to raise awareness and drive action for a particular issue.

EGA: If you could give yourself one piece of advice at the start of your career, what would it be?

TB: I would tell myself that it is important to take deep breaths every so often and to ask for help when it’s needed. Not everything will be 100% perfect the first time and it’s the review process that helps you grow professionally.

EGA: What past work project or accomplishment are you the proudest of and why?

TB: There have been a lot of really cool projects that I’ve worked on during my nine months at EGA. It’s always rewarding to see ideas that you come up go from concept to final product to being published. Every time that happens, it makes me extremely proud of myself and my team.

EGA: What would you do if you weren’t doing this?

TB: Ideally, I’d be a full-time writer – I’m working on some short stories right now. But practically, I’d probably be in the communications space, but maybe on the sports side.

EGA: If you could invite 3 people (living or dead) to a dinner party, who would you choose and why?

TB: This is a tough one. Honestly, I’d invite my maternal grandparents to ask them all the questions I never got a chance to. And Beyonce for too many reasons to list. I think that would be a great dinner.

EGA: How do you like to spend your time outside of work? Do you have any special hobbies or interests?

TB: I really enjoy cooking and baking! I like to test out new recipes from different countries.
