Modi 3.0: India Post-election Analysis
EGA India has released a Post-election Analysis on the election results for India’s lower house of Parliament—the Lok Sabha.
The 2024 election secured a third consecutive term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a majority leadership of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fell short of a majority, winning only 240 seats. To make up the gap, BJP is dependent upon alliances, forming a coalition government—the NDA—with regional political parties such as the Telugu Desam Party and the JD(U). Together, the NDA won over half the seats—293 of 543—despite a significant loss in three key Hindi heartland states. Meanwhile, the opposition strengthened its position, with the Congress—part of the opposition I.N.D.I.A. bloc—winning 99 seats, up from their 52 seats in 2019.
What economic and political policies and reforms are ahead? How did Modi’s cabinet perform? Who are the up-and-coming power players to watch? And how did markets respond? Read the full report for more insights:
